I'm good with this. Still plenty of D to pick from at 24; Hague, branstrom, joeseph, Timmons. I'm sure one or two of these guys will be there. |

Outrageous that Murray has only 6 top 2 votes. Biased forward voters.

Kind of hard to compete when the Toronto media has about 120 of those votes!

I would say the Jets were one of the big winners at the Draft. I'm not sure why Mcphee even made a deal with the jets if that's what he could get. He should have just picked an exposed player |

"Insecure?" Nah, just putting this to rest, because you can be DAMN SURE that guys like you would be letting Leafs fans know about it if Laine had won. Fact.
Laine isn't half the player Matthews is. If Laine isn't scoring goals he's invisible and pretty much a non-factor.
Like so many 1st and 2nd OA players before them, Matthews and Laine are attached at the hip and their accomplishments will be measured against each other. That is all. |

1/2 the player?
Keep in mind I think Matthews should of won the award but 1/2?
His passing is fantastic, he out-hit Matthews 80-21 and was +7 on a non-playoff team, Matthews was +2
Laine 73 games 36 g 28 a 64 pts 26 pms +7
Matthews 82 games 40g 29a 69 pts 14 pms +2
If Laine played the 9 more games would he get 5 or more points?
At the end of the day both great young players, to say 1/2 the player is a little nutty |

Remind me who Matthews played with and who Laine played again?
#1C is also a much more difficult position than W.
Furthermore, Matthews was also under the Toronto media spotlight and handled it like a vet of 10yrs, whereas Laine came off as a cocky immature teenager with a number of his comments.
The bottom line is that Matthews' game is far complete and I suspect the gap will continue to widen as these two progress through their careers.
164 first place votes to 3... Almost unanimous says it all. |

Matthews had 5 more PP points as well
Total on ice Mattews: 1446 mins
Total on ice Laine: 1308 mins
Is it really 1/2 as good? ....as for cocky etc , if you are in the Wpg market you know that 99.9% of his stuff is dry, very dry humor. He seems to be a good kid. Matthews as well.
If WPG picked 1st we would of taken Matthews as well, but 1/2 as good is tough to argue with any credibility

I don't believe the "dry humour" bit, it comes off as cocky and arrogant, and you don't need to be a Jets fan to see that.
I'm just saying that beyond scoring goals, Laine's game isn't anywhere close to Matthews.
Players get shadowed and shut down all the time. When this happens what Matthews can still contribute far exceeds what Laine does...
Faceoffs
Positional play
Defense
Quality PK time
Turnovers
Possession
Better board work
Better in tight ice
Leadership
Making those around him better
Poise
Hockey IQ
Vision
+++
All these traits and attributes are in Matthews' favour with many of them not even debatable.
Both great young talents, but Matthews is simply on another level all together and the Calder voting has shown that. That's all I'm saying. |

Not a Chevy fan at all, but he navigated the expansion draft very well. Dropped 11 spots and in a draft like this the player the Jets were targeting at 13 is probably the same player they will get at 24 (I think it will be Callan Foote or Nicolas Hague). They could easily trade Toby or Dano at the deadline (if need be) to get that perceived "lost value" back. If we are in the playoffs, then the depth is way more important then the 11 spots anyway - won't need to overpay for help at the deadline.
Cheers! |

The big question is what is the next move ?
We now have an abundance of forwards, so some of them are tradeable.
Are we trading Trouba or Myers ?

Absolutely. Chevy is way too passive, in my opinion. He has lots of work to do this week! He needs to lock Trouba up long-term, if he can't then he needs to trade him asap. He also needs to package the young forwards for a proven top-6 forward and, of course, we need a solid goalie. Chiarot with Myers on the 3rd pairing D is just fine. Should be interesting. |

"Trolling?"
And yes, I watch plenty of Jets games, and other teams' games for that matter. Given the landslide that Matthews won by, perhaps it is you who doesn't watch Leafs games. See how that works?
No one is trolling. I was merely posting on something that is/was very relevant to both Leafs and Jets fans and have been responding to other's comments, ultimately highlighting why Matthews won the award, how much he won it by and why he is an all around better player.
That's not trolling, it's called conversation and debate. |
